People who do not eat animals of any form are said to follow the practise of vegetarianism. However some vegetarians will consume dairy products or eggs while some will not. There is no specific diet that vegetarian follow except the exclusion of meat and fish. Vegetarians should try to make sure they eat a varied diet. Ancient India and ancient Greece according to records had the first groups of vegetarians. The records go back six centuries before the birth of Christ. Vegetarianism in Europe almost disappeared during the Roman Empire. During the age of the renaissance it would reappear. The world's first Vegetarian Society was founded in Europe, specifically England in 1847; other countries had their own societies very quickly thereafter. In 1908 a union of various national vegetarian societies joined together in the International Vegetarian Union. Vegetarians represent an increasingly large minority in the United States. There are a number of possible reasons why people follow vegetarianism these include health, religion, economic, personal taste and social. Certain religions, Hinduism and Jainism teach vegetarianism as moral conduct. Some vegetarians argue that the eating of animal flesh is wrong or that to produce meat utilises excessive resources in comparison to the same level of vegetarian food. Certain vegetarian prefer the taste of vegetarian food or do not like the taste of meat. Individual vegetarians will choose the diet that suits them this diet can be completely different from other vegetarians. By eating a diet that is low in fat and calories a vegetarian could try to reduce weight. Fast food in the form of bean burritos and soy cheese pizzas can be part of some vegetarian diets. Vegetarian meals are common in many countries throughout the world. In India this might include raitas, rasam, bengain bharta and jalfrezis. Many dishes for vegetarian in China are available these can be based on noodles, string beans tofu and mushrooms.
