A live theater production is one of the most pleasurable and memorable experiences that many people are able to take advantage of. In addition, it provides a sense of vibrancy and quality of life that people in communities without live or outdoor theaters don't quite understand. The following paragraphs will highlight the numerous benefits including financial, social, and cultural of live theater productions as well as the benefits of outdoor theater productions that stretch beyond these. Live theater can have a considerable impact on the community in which it resides. As people attend theatrical performances, they typically take part in the activities in addition to the theater itself which increases the amount of money spent in the area, and as a result boosts the local economy. Whether people stop at the local restaurant before attending the theater, or stop in local shops after the production, money gets spent and the popularity of the town increases. Additionally, theater related businesses become in greater demand when a live theater is present. This may include dry cleaners, wig makers, hair stylists, retail establishments, and even lumber yards for set design and props. Live theaters also benefit a community socially and culturally. It brings together people of all racial and economic backgrounds together as they experience an afternoon or evening of pure delight. In addition, it helps people relate better to one another as they are able to catch as glimpse into what the theatrical or musical performance displays; thus, creating a sense of understanding and commonality within diverse groups of the community. Theater productions also educate and enlighten people by examining and exploring various social, political, personal, and artistic issues that are relevant within our lives and communities-these are often trends that span generational gaps and show how people can overcome differences and celebrate unique aspects of our lives. Numerous long-term studies also suggest that children who participate in fine arts and theater do better in school, regardless of their cultural or socio-economic background. Additionally, they experience increased community awareness, social skills, cultural perspective, and artistic abilities. These are all skills that help children learn to function more responsibly within our communities as they become contributing members of our society. Although the benefits of live theater are understood on many levels, the outdoor theater is often overlooked as a means of providing and even enhancing musical and theatrical events. The theme of the event can be woven into nature and take advantage of the outdoor elements; thus enabling the natural beauty of the surroundings to become an integral part of the performance. Time of day can also play a critical role into how the event unfolds. For example the rising or setting sun can have an impact into the climax or the conclusion of the presentation. Because people are often affected by their visual surroundings, experiencing a musical or theatrical event in an outdoor setting can make the event even more dramatic, thrilling, and memorable. After being indoors for most of the winter, some people simply enjoy the opportunity to experience outdoor entertainment in the form of an outdoor theater. This can be a time that people can gather to enjoy the arts and music at a quality that people often imagine only being experienced in up-scale indoor theaters. However, truly creative performers realize how the elements of nature enhance what they can provide to their audience, and use this to their advantage to incorporate all of the audiences' senses. The quality found in outdoor theater productions can vary, because some musicians and theatrical artists don't understand how to use nature to their advantage and rather it appears to be a competition to "block out" the elements of nature. On the other hand, the outdoor theatre can be a very relaxing and enchanting time to watch the artists display their talent. Regardless of age or socio-economic standing, theatre productions can be enlightening, enjoyable, and educational. By supporting live and outdoor theater, there are numerous benefits to both the community and those taking advantage of the arts.
