Work is a stressful experience and we simply have to learn how to cope with that. Here's how it is done. Do not bring your home problems to work. Quit worrying about your kids or wife when you're at work - you can't help them right now, but you can worse your own situation (and their as well!) if your performance gets down. This is the key to keep your work-related stress in check - do not add anything to it. Then, remember you don't have to be everyone's friend. If there is anyone at work you don't like or that doesn't like you much, you can just keep your contacts impersonal. Do not be concerned about their opinions about your actions - concentrate on your job. If you fail to do that, the situation will quickly get extremely stressful and unpleasant. Every job brings some stress. However, the exact source of stress varies depending on the individual situation. The sources of stress for a real estate agent and fighter pilot are different even though the stress levels can get similar at times... The point is that you can't just apply any solution for your stress problems and consider the problem solved. While most of them work in every situation to a degree, you can't apply them automatically without considering your current job situation. The everyday practice however, shows that most of the problems are caused by overlapping hierarchies or poor management. The best source of stress is receiving two contradictory requests at the same time. Coping with that can be difficult, but the best and most effective solution is to talk with your boss and try to work it out together. In most situations this will help both solve the problem and take some responsibility from you. There is also one other type of work-related reason of stress: being unemployed or being unable to find a job you really want to do. Those situations are common and natural - there is hardly anyone in the world who didn't feel any of that at least once in their lifetime. What is worse, such stress is inevitable, so the only thing you can really do is making it short-term. Remember that being stressed does not help you find the job you want, so do something to relax a bit, then just solve your problem as fast as possible.
