It is so simple to just label depression as something that only affects the weak minded people, or if not just .. other people. The truth is that if you or anyone at all that you have cared about has been touched by it you will know that it can be much more. We see depression every single day nowadays and its not always in real life, movies, television and, books, all represent it from time to time and often the aim is to make a joke out of it, but what does a depressive disorder really mean? It is unfortunate that alot of people do not realize that depression is actually a serious medical condition and as such it is treatable. Please don't believe that it is something that is just made up or in your head, because that is not the case. Most people that suffer don't seek treatment because they think that there is no help available, however even the more severe of cases can be improved. Naturally the serious cases can tear a family apart not to mention the life of the person that is suffering from it. The things to understand firstly are what is the cause, how does it affect you and of course just what is it. Depression is the second leading cause of days if work in the United States, only behind Heart Disease which is quite a statistic. So what is it then that affects all those people. In a major medical study it has been reported that depression caused significant problems in those people suffering from it, more than other quite prominent diseases including, chronic lung disease, hypertension, lung disease and arthritis. Depression can be a lot more than just feeling blue or being down in the dumps, It is an actual medical condition as is diabetes, heart disease or high blood pressure. It is something that, if not treated, can have control over your physical health, your thoughts, feelings, and your behavior. Depressive disorder symptoms can affect the physical body as much as they can cause negative thoughts and moods. They are know to have an impact on bodily functions, causing irregular eating and sleeping patterns, sobbing spells, and decrease sex drive. If not looked at depression can actually increase the risk of HIV, asthma, and coronary artery disease to name a few. The biggest thing about depression is even if your not affected, you are at risk. It is widely noted that depression affects women much more frequently than men, the reason for this however is still not completely clear. It is also common, besides the fact that women are generally affected more than men, that women will more often try and work the problem themselves more than men tend to do. Sometimes, clearly this can work, but it really does come down to the root cause. Good news is that depression, when treated can be helped or cured in more than 80% of all individuals. The unfortunate part is that most people suffering will not try and find help. Just talking about the problem openly can actually help to reduce the symptoms. If you find that nothing is working for you, there is an herbal supplement called Thyromine, which is claimed to be able to reduce depression.
