A lot of us suffer from stress. If we try to manage it, we usually end with only a few minor problems or a couple of bad days per year. If we pretend that stress-induced problems do not exist, we end in a hospital. It's as simple as that. You have to do something about your stress or you have to suffer the consequences. What can you do to cope with stress? First, make sure that your home is a stress-free environment. When you're at home, try to worry only about those situations that you are 100% sure affect you in a negative way. Being worried about lots of issues at the same time is a short way to serious stress and depression related problems. Also, remember that you have to accept past events. You can't go on thinking about your past mistakes: you will only get more and more stressed while not helping anyone or anything. Do not let yourself or anyone from your family bear past burdens - help them accept their choices even if they were wrong and assist them in their present problems. While you may want to lay on the couch all the evening, try to spend some time with your children instead. Go out, eat ice creams, go for a walk to the park or watch some cartoons - anything that would make both you and your kids happy and relaxed. Such activities bring a lot of joy home and minimize the stress levels at home. You can do just the same without kids of course, and the results will be similar. Going out with friends or your loved one, doing things you like doing like eating out, watching movies or walking and having a good laugh is what you need to keep your mind intact. There is one condition though: try not to think about your problems while you're out. You won't be able to do anything about them at that moment, so there is no reason to think about them at all. The last thing to remember is to always have something else to concentrate on. Regardless of how serious your problems are, you have to be able to "switch off" yourself from time to time and do something else. Save some time and some of your attention to other things, which are hopefully not as stressful. While you may feel urged to concentrate solely on your problems until they are solved, that is exactly what makes you burnt out in a matter of weeks and in a hospital in a metter of a few years. Do not fall in that trap!
