How To Find a Good Credit Card Deal

By: Paul McDermott

What is a good credit card deal? You must have heard people say - 'I got a good credit card deal'. So if you happen to be looking for a credit card at that moment, do you just go with what your friend has told you as a good credit card deal?

Let's check what one can term as a good credit card deal. A credit card deal is good if it works for you. So, if the credit card fits into your lifestyle in a way that makes maximum benefits for you, that can be a good credit card deal.

The most important thing to realize here is the word 'your' as in 'your lifestyle'. So logically speaking there is nothing like a good credit card deal. What it is - is good credit card deal for 'you' i.e. the individual who is going to use that credit card.

Now, if it is your friend who told you about the good credit card deal, chances are that it could work for you, since it is likely that you have some similar hobbies. But you may not have similar credit histories. If yours is not so good, then you may not qualify for the deal your friend got.

Travel and airline cards often give rewards, although they often have fairly high annual fees, and sometimes restrictions on redeeming the rewards that make them inconvenient for what you will pay. I am finding the cost of having one of these cards keeps going up, so make sure you will really benefit from the rewards you can earn.

For people shopping at a particular retail store or a shop, a good credit card deal would be a card that offers discounts, rebates and rewards on shopping. Again, the retail stores themselves might have credit cards on offer that could be beneficial to you. Then there are credit card deals that are linked to gasoline stores or big grocery chains.

For most people, a basic credit card may be the best. You could still get rewards for purchases. But remember, credit card companies are smart and out to make money. So they know the typical spending habits of a card holder, and structure their deal to make themselves a profit.

So there is not a good credit card deal that is good for everyone. If you see one that seems good for you, think clearly about the costs that you will pay versus the rewards you are sure you will get. And do not just add another card to your wallet because some good deal came along. That habit will spell trouble.
