You may be restless at night, tossing and turning in your bed because of excessive worry. For generalized anxiety disorder there are several different warning signs that indicate the beginning of the sickness. The very first symptom or sign is that you cannot calm down and always feel agitated for no apparent reasons, you always feel shaky and various other signs. You might feel that you have irregular heartbeat and you always feel wozzy. Breathing seems to be very hard for you and you always feel uneasy in the stomach. Patients suffering from anxiety disorder would always be surrounded by the feeling of dread. Tomorrow is a fearful uncertainty for you because you are scared of what might happen tomorrow that could cause harm to you and your family and close friends. People suffering from these problems would also suffer symptoms like inability to sleep, lack of patience when handling daily matters, and also suffering from the incapability to focus. People around you always tell you that you have a short fuse and would lose your temper very easily. If any of these symptoms persist for more than a month, you have probably succumbed to generalized anxiety disorder. Your anxiety might be so severe that you also experience a phobia. This is an irrational worry about a situation—a worry so debilitating that you go out of your way to avoid a certain object or situation. While you yourself may sense that something is wrong, you may feel as if you lack the power to do anything about it. If the fear is severe, it is considered a full-fledged disorder. While phobias may not always plague those with anxiety disorders, they may accompany anxiety. The general public should realize that in the study of phobias, the signs are divided into the three main categories. The first general phobia or fear is agoraphobia, in which the patient is suffering from the fear of going into public places which are crowded, for example the library or the beach. The reason for this fear is that you are fearful that you might be unable to go out of the public area safely if something happens. Another major phobia is social phobia in which you are afraid of talking and interactively communicating with other people, no matter the sex and age. You are afraid that you will say something wrong and you will humiliate yourself in front of other people. The final phobia is the simple phobia where the fear is of something in particular such as animals with lots of fur, cars and so on. Anxiety can also lead to a panic disorder. A panic attack generally involves racing heart beat, chest pain, dizziness, perspiration, or a fear of dying. It can be highly debilitating, preventing an individual from being able to perform work or another important function. It can seriously curtail one’s social life, causing an individual to become isolated. These human anxieties are caused by various different reasons. The main reasons would be stress from daily life, problems with the nutrition factor in the daily intake of food and liquid, and imbalance in the body. In order to overcome and control the anxiety disorder condition, the medical world has come out with some drugs such as Clonidine or Clonazepam. But, these kind of strong drug medicines have strong side effects also so you would have to consult with your physician carefully first before consuming the drug. There are some reported cases of patients actually becoming seriously addicted with the drug and cannot stop and that is definitely not encouraged. If you have run out of ideas to stop and overcome your phobias and anxiety, then another way is to join an active support group. When you are surrounded by the people from different backgrounds who are suffering from the same difficulties and therefore are looking for support and help from the same people then it is easier to overcome it. Listening to other people talk about how they are struggling and coping with the same problems can be more effective and helping for yourself more than you think. With all these people around you helping you cope with your difficulties, you would not feel lonely and you feel happy when you realize there are actually people who really care. Anxiety can be a painful and debilitating condition, harming one’s self-image, one’s relationship with family members, and one’s ability to perform one’s job. It can also lead to panic attacks, which lead to another set of serious problems. Fortunately, there has been a great deal of research in recent years regarding anxiety disorders. With appropriate treatment, people who suffer from anxiety disorders can learn to function effectively. However, treatment often involves a great deal of work and determination. In time, you should be able to ascertain the most effective methods of treating your condition.
