That feeling of apprehension, unnecessary worry, nervousness and fear is called anxiety. Having a fear about an upcoming examination or quiz, or having some degree of worry concerning a family member or friend is normal and justified. However, sometimes anxiety becomes a problem and interferes with your ability to sleep or otherwise function. The anxiety itself may have no cause, or, it may happen because of a specific situation, though it will be too much anxiety for that situation. There are three ways that you can reduce your anxiety. One thing to do in order to relieve the feeling of anxiety is avoiding a stressed out feeling when a situation arises that may cause anxiety. Although it sounds somewhat simplistic, the truth is that stress is not a thing and it isn’t an action. It is a reaction to a stimulus. You can learn to stop before reacting to a stressful situation and thereby avoid a reaction that causes stress. One is ample is dealing with an unreasonable person and pausing and letting the other person deal with their unreasonableness rather than turning it into your own nervousness and tension. By learning to make yourself pause and evaluate the options, the situation can be made to produce less stress and anxiety. Secondly, practice your calm breathing during times of low stress. Keep your focus on only your breath. When a feeling of anxiety begins, immediately turn back to this practice, focusing only on your breathing instead of the situation at hand. Doing this is another way to remind yourself ot pause before allowing yourself to react to a stressful situation with an anxiety reaction. Getting some regular physical exercise, even if you don’t particularly enjoy exercising it, will allow you to relax by soothing your mind and making your heart beat slower. You may not completely overcome your anxiety with just these three simple techniques, but these are very good activities for lowering your overall anxiety level. They will give you a new perspective which will solve many other problems in the bargain. Using these techniques will allow you a new outlook on your life. This will give you a look at life’s bright side, and you will become a person who is happy and much less stressed. You may find that people are now seeking you out as company, which will give you a needed boost in confidence, making you forget how pervasive anxiety used to be in your life. You can certainly treat your anxiety by yourself, without the assistance of a doctor, which will be crucial to curbing anxiety before important occasions such as a test coming up, an interview for a job or a time when you will be performing in front of the public. In circumstances such as these, you can relieve your stress and anxiety by stopping and picturing yourself being successful in your endeavor and feeling no fear, or having a talk with someone supportive, by practicing deep breathing or by talking a warm bath and relaxing.
