Online Marketing; Choosing the Right Affiliate Programs

By: Daniel Marx

There are two keys to becoming a successful online marketer. The first is getting a reasonable number of people to visit your website(s). The second is choosing your affiliate programs well.

To choose your affiliate program or programs well, you need to consider everything you know about your website visitors. Where do they live? Are they men or women? How old are most of them? What do they need? What do they like?

These questions, and the answers to them, are critical. Be ready to spend a lot of time thinking about which products and services are most likely to be attractive to your audience. And, be prepared to make changes in what you offer if your first attempts are unsuccessful. Sometimes the trial and error method is the best way to learn.

When considering affiliate programs, you might also want to consider some that pay you for sales leads rather than actual sales. In some instances, programs will pay you up to $50 or more when a visitor to your site requests information about a product or service.

In some cases you even earn a commission if one of your visitors answers a survey question or signs up for a free pizza or ipod.

Of course, you want to choose affiliate programs which pay you good commissions, but you might be better off taking a lower commission from a program which will pay you a percentage of the earnings of any referrals you can generate.

Remember, you should choose programs which:

1. allow you to log in to a website to view and track your visitors and sales.

2. attractive banners or well written text ads which will produce results for you.

3. treat you well by responding to questions and paying you promptly.

4. offer your visitors a good product or service at a fair price.

Finally, follow the great advice I once got from a very successful businessperson. Track and analyze everything that moves.
