Fans of the CW reality television series The Pussycat Dolls Present: The Search for the Next Doll are most likely acquainted with Ron Fair, who appeared as one of the judges on the show. Yet though his television stint made him a familiar face to a wider audience, as he laid down his savvy criticism on a string of Pussycat Doll hopefuls, he has already worked as a notable figure in the high-strung world of the music industry for over three decades. One of his main job credentials long before he became involved with the judging gig on the show is working for Geffen Records as its chairman. He has also helped along the likes of Mya, Keyshia Cole, and the Black-Eyed Peas. Fair was also the executive who discovered the talent of pop sensation Christina Aguilera and signed her first recording contract. One of his more recent collaborations has been with multiple award-nominated performer, singer and actress Queen Latifah, to produce and bring out her new album Trav'lin' Light. Yet their work on the new record, due out on September 25, does not fall into rap, hip-hop, or R&B pop, which are the musical styles that the two were previously known for. Instead, Trav'lin' Light has been considered a successor to her previous release The Dana Owens Album, with Dana Owens being Latifah's real name. Like its predecessor, the new album will focus more on the genres of soul, jazz, and traditional pop. Fair helped produce eight of the album's 13 new tracks, with some of them being covers of classical, older songs. Among these are "I Want a Little Sugar in My Bowl" from Bessie Smith, "Quiet Nights of Quiet Stars" by Antonio Carlos Jobim, and "Gone Away" by The Impressions. "Gone Away" was also hip-hop sampled in the T.I. song "What You Know."
