Mia Michaels and Wade Robson have both been lauded as skilled choreographers, helping produce energetic and creative dance routines which have been featured on the Fox competitive reality television series So You Think You Can Dance. Their efforts on the show recently culminated in no less than an Emmy Award win for both of them during the 59th Annual Creative Arts Emmy Awards, which were held at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, California. Both Michaels and Robson each took home their own respective awards rather than a shared one, since in the Outstanding Choreography category, it is possible to have more than one recognized victor. Michaels bagged her Emmy for her work on the routine for “Calling You,” while Robson earned his from the piece “Ramalama (Bang Bang).” Both pieces were performed during the second season of the show, and were considered to be high points of the season. The “Ramalama” piece from Robson was originally showcased by the top nine dancers at the time, yet it grew very well-received and popular enough that the show’s producers brought it back for the finale. That time around, all top 20 dancers who appeared on the show joined in to groove along to the song. On the other hand, Michaels’ “Calling You” gained a reputation among series fans as “the sunflower piece” or “the bench piece.” Among the final four competitors who took on the routine were Heidi Groskreutz and Travis Wall. The judges lauded it for being fabulous and sensational, and like “Ramalama,” it was also brought back for another performance during the live finale. Though aside from So You Think You Can Dance, both Robson and Michaels already have well-respected names in the performance arts. Michaels has been involved with Cirque du Soleil, while Robson has choreographed for pop music acts and movies.
