The Basics of baby shower hosting

By: Elizabeth Ellis

There is no other way to welcome the baby and celebrate the parents by throwing fun baby showers. For those who would like to do the honor of holding one for somebody close, I suggest that you carefully plan it so that you won’t miss out on any important things that you basically need to cover. Pre baby parties are to give the parents for moral support and maybe lift their financial burden a little by giving basic necessities for their baby.

In the earlier period; baby showers were thrown strictly for mothers to be. They are given mostly by family member. However things have changed over the years. Absolutely anyone can host this exciting event. Sometimes men can have their own daddy showers. However, when it comes to giving presents, not much was affected. Basically you should give the necessary things new parents would need to take care of their young one or ones! If you are inviting a group of close friends, why not sit together before going shopping so that you don’t end up buying two, three or even four of the same things.

Before giving out the invitations, you should ask the parents who you should invite. You don’t want any important or closest people left out or inviting people whom they prefer you did not invite. You are thankful that in this modern age, you don’t need to go through all the trouble of sending initiations to a baby showers unlike in the olden days. You can have all the fun of designing the unique shower invitation mails with your computer. Be sure to bear in mind that all the important information like directions and address of the party are clearly stated.

Give the mom sufficient time following the shower to shop for items she didn't receive, yet wants to have before the baby arrives. A baby shower is normally held a month or two before the mom's scheduled birth date. This is of course for practical reasons as you wouldn’t want to hold the gathering too close to the baby's due date in case he or she makes an early arrival!

Traditionally a baby shower is held in the home of the hostess, this is of course not a rule and the event can most certainly be hosted at a different venue say a religious gathering, a seafood restaurant, or even at an outdoor picnic. This really depends on what kind of atmosphere you are looking for and how much money you are willing to spend. Should you decide on a paid venue, say a restaurant, be sure to make prior reservations at least a week earlier. A few days before the event, speak with the manager to confirm the details of the shower. Also should there be any baby shower favors to give guests such as packets of sweets or potpourri be sure to pack beforehand and make a little extra just in case. This is to avoid the embarrassment of not having enough for all the guests.

A baby show need not take too long to carry out. It all depends on the visitors present. If they know each other well, they might want to stay longer.

A shower should be a fun business. So, there is no need to be stressed over how to handle the event. Greet all the visitors and if you don’t know them, try to learn how they the new parents to be or how they are related. Try not to sound as if you are interrogating. Prepare simple snacks for the party. Small sandwiches and finger sized appetizers are great for light refreshment. Get them involved in games so that they can get to know the other guests.

After games and snacks, when everyone is sitting down, its time for the parents to unwrap the presents. It is a good idea to note down who gave what to make it easier for the thank you notes afterward. The future mom should have the opportunity to bid farewell to everybody although not everyone will leave at the same time. The host or hostess can give shower souvenirs to the departing guests.
