The role of the IT consultant is very crucial for all large corporate organizations. In fact, IT consultants are becoming the backbone of all companies.

The work of the IT consultant is diverse. At times, IT consultants help set up and maintain a hosted exchange. While at other times, they help define the software and hardware needs for a client.

The tasks of an IT consultant are varied and include meeting with clients to determine requirements; working with clients to define the scope of a project; planning timescales and the resources needed; clarifying a client's system specifications, understanding their work practices and the nature of their business; traveling to customer sites; designing, testing, installing and monitoring new systems and preparing documentation and presenting progress reports to customers.

The IT consultant normally works in partnership with corporate organizations to help define the business systems that will be required as well as help define the technology that will be suit the needs of the business.

For a lot of companies who are planning to expand their computer network, the services of an IT consultant are invaluable.
