Austin Street Names - Does a Politically Incorrect Street Name Influence House Value?
We are in the process of buying some lots in Oak Hill with a few other buyers but they do not like the name of the street and want the developer to have it changed. The street has a really great name--Sisquoc. Sisquoc is a Chumash Indian (from California) name that loosely means "stopping place." There is a river called Sisquoc River in California. The other buyers are having a hard time saying and spelling it. The city is changing the name of the street to "San Lucas."

Building Homes to Compliment the Lot
I've been observing a lot of homes lately that were not constructed to take full advantage of the lot upon which they were constructed. This upsets the resale value. These said homes are most likely in tract subdivisions. One very conspicuous example is a home standing near the greenbelt space on a dead-end lot. To the left of the home, and straight out the cul-de-sac as you drive into the street is natural ranchland scattered with beautiful mature oak trees, native vegetation, and a wet weather creek. A space that is dedicated not to be urbanized. One of those kind of sceneries one can observe in photos, the scenery of pure Texas Hill Country that you imagine admiring them while sitting on a rocking chair at the back of the veranda or on a swing. It really beats the heck out of staring at a neighbor's house. But whoever built the house really did blow it.
